Turkey Beach: Discovery Coast Visitor Information (UPDATED 2024)

Hotspot for Crabbing and Fishing in the Gladstone Region

Sand at Turkey Beach in the Gladstone Region of Queensland

As beautiful as its waters are, Turkey Beach isn’t exactly the biggest beach going around. In fact, you are more likely to see tractors here than sandcastles. But if you are looking for a place to go crabbing and fishing, then there is no better destination to head to.

Best described as a sleepy little fishing village, anglers flock here in their droves to catch Mangrove Jack, which is by far and away the most sought after and prized species here. That said, flathead and bream can be caught in abundance, and even the odd cod can be snared if you throw the line in the right way. Just follow the locals for the best areas to reel them in.

Turkey Beach is not far from Agnes Water and 1770 on the Discovery Coast in Queensland and makes a pleasant side trip for those visiting both destinations.

Additionally, it is an excellent spot for Four Wheel Drive lovers as the popular Danube track hives off not far from out of town, through Eurimbula National Park and eventually to Agnes Water.

How to get to Turkey Beach

Turkey Beach is situated on a peninsula that juts into Rodds Bay.

To get to it, you will need to veer off the Bruce Highway at Foreshores and make your way onto Turkey Beach Road that will take you right into Worthington Road, which is the main thoroughfare in the town.

The beach and boat ramp are at the end of the peninsula.

Turkey Beach Amenities

As Turkey Beach is a largely undeveloped coastal town, commercialism has yet to grip the area, which gives it a very laid back and relaxed feel.

Indeed, the only shop in town is the Turkey Beach General Store, which most people refer to as ‘The Shop’. There, you will be able to buy everything from diesel and unleaded fuel and fishing bait and tackle to foods like sausage rolls and pies and Marine and automotive batteries.

There are no restaurants or accommodation options in town, so if you are looking for these you should head to Tannum Sands or Miriam Vale, both of which are about a half an hour drive away.

Thankfully, you will find toilets here though. They are located near a children’s playground, which kids should enjoy playing in.
