Beautiful Family-Friendly Seaside Destination on the Fraser Coast in the Wide Bay–Burnett region of Queensland
Pialba Beach is the first beach you come to from Hervey Bay’s main esplanade, which takes you all the way up to Urangan Beach.
Situated on its southern shore, it is one of the most scenic of all beaches you can visit in Hervey Bay, with the gentle curve of golden sand stretching for a kilometre.
As this beach is close to the main business and shopping area in town, there are usually quite a few people on it. However, the width of its sand, especially at low tide, means it is never too crowded and there is usually more than enough space to spread yourself out for a good few hours.
Where is Pialba Beach?
Pialba Beach is located in Hervey Bay, approximately 290 km north of Brisbane and 115 km south of Bundaberg.
Best reached by car, it will take you about three hours and 15 minutes to drive to from the former and about an hour and 15 minutes to reach from the latter.
You should find plenty of paid and free parking along the main esplanade and surrounding streets.
Things To Do at Pialba Beach
Pialba Beach is a lovely beach for walking and beachcombing, and is known for being one of the top spots for whale watching in Hervey Bay.
If you fancy a swim, this is best done at high tide, although you should be mindful that as this stretch of the Coral Sea is not patrolled by surf lifesavers, you will need to exercise caution if you do enter the water.
When the tide is low, there are shallow pools kids can play in on the sand. However, if you would rather them not get dirty, then you might want to take them to the local beachfront park which is just off the sand.
There you’ll find a fantastic free kids water park, called WetSide waterpark, which features water slides and zero-depth water play areas.
You’ll also find public amenities such as toilets, picnic tables, and barbecues that you can use, and not far from it is Adventure Side.
A firm favourite with kids, it features a playground designed for all-abilities that includes an enclosed swing bridge, spiral slides and gigantic rope climbing frame. There is also a Parkour course and skate park for them to enjoy.
Where To Stay
While there are plenty of Holiday accommodation options in Hervey Bay, if you specifically want to stay near Pialba Beach, then you should consider the Pialba Caravan Park.
It is set directly on the beach and offers an excellent range of powered and unpowered sites for caravanners and campers that are just a short walk from the local shops, cafes and other amenities.
The likes of camp kitchens, boat ramps, laundry and free bbqs are just some of its main facilities.
For those who would prefer to stay in a resort, the Ramada by Wyndham Hervey Bay and the Mantra are very good options.
