Undoubtedly one of the nicest beaches in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, if the golden sand and shimmering, protected waters of the Coral Sea don’t seduce you, then the fascinating rockpools, glorious saltwater oceanfront swimming pool, wonderful coastal walkway, that leads you to Bulcock Beach, and fabulous water fountain which entertains children for hours with its surprising, time-delayed jets of water, most certainly will.
What makes a Kings Beach Caloundra holiday such an attractive proposition is that it has everything you need within easy walking distance. So, once you have unpacked your bags, it is a place where you will easily get into the swing of things without once having to hop into your car (unless of course you want to explore the wider area).
Subsequently, if it is laid-back and relaxing holiday vibes you are after this Queensland coastal hotspot delivers it in spades.
Like most of the beaches on the Sunshine Coast, King’s Beach is a place you can visit all year round. However, the type of experience you are after should influence when you go there.

Kings Beach is a gorgeous coastal suburb with a population of around 2,800 people. It resides within the Caloundra region of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia and is situated just to the east of the Caloundra CBD.
The beach is approximately 104km north of Brisbane and is flanked by holiday flights and apartments. It is sandwiched in between Bulcock Beach and Shelley Beach, which is connected by walking paths, an esplanade and pavement, making them easy to get between on foot.

Best Time To Visit Kings Beach
Like most of the beaches in Caloundra, King’s Beach is a place you can visit all year round. However, the type of experience you are after should influence when you go there. So, you might want to bear the following in mind.
The summer months of December to February and especially at weekends and in the school holidays at this time represent the peak season. So, if you want to avoid the crowds you are best going elsewhere at this time. That said, if you want to enjoy a spot of sunbathing on the golden sand or a dip in the Coral Sea, this time of year is perfect for doing those activities. Be mindful that temperatures often exceed 30 degrees Celsius and humidity can be over 70%. Additionally, it is the wet season, so there is a good chance of storms. Hotel prices will also naturally be higher, while availability tends to be more scarce.
For this reason, you might want to visit in the shoulder seasons before or after summer. The period between October and November and week days in March and April (outside of Easter) can be very pleasant times to go. The weather is nice, with the mercury hovering around 28 degrees Celsius and holiday accommodation tends to be cheaper. Crucially, you will also find the water temperature still fine to swim in and the beach much less crowded.
The winter months can be a nice time to visit as the weather during the daytime is still quite warm – averaging around 22 degrees. At this time, many New Zealand tourists and visitors from Victoria, Canberra and New South Wales come up for a Sunshine Coast holiday. Whenever you choose to visit Kings Beach Caloundra, try and make a special effort to see the sunrise. It is a truly spectacular sight!
What Facilities do they have at Kings Beach?
For the visitor, Kings Beach Caloundra offers plenty of facilities to set you up for a perfect Sunshine Coast beach holiday.
The beach is patrolled by lifeguards from the Caloundra (Mets) Surf Club, which you will find at the precinct’s northern end around Spender Lane. Additionally, you’ll find plenty of public toilets in the area as well as showers to wash the sand off your feet.
Within the Kings Beach Caloundra Park, which runs either side of the lifeguard building, there are plenty of seating, picnic tables, bbq areas and natural shade. There is also an area where there is a playground for children with a climbing net and exercise equipment.
The area is also renowned for the Kings Beach Bathing Pavilion which is next to the surf club. Originally built in 1937, the heritage listed Spanish Mission-style building was given a makeover in 2009 and still provides a kiosk and public toilets like it did when it first opened.
Over at Alexandra Park, which runs from Burgess Street all the way down towards Ormonde Terrace is a half-sized basketball court, as well as more barbecue facilities and picnic shelters. It is also where the Kings Beach Amphitheatre is located – the stage on which bands perform during the Caloundra Music Festival.
Just behind the park and off the Esplanade Headland is where the Kings Beach Fountain is located.
You will not want for things to do at Kings Beach Caloundra. In fact, if anything, you’ll struggle to fit everything into the limited time you will have available. So, it will pay to be organised.
How to get to Kings Beach
Kings Beach is an easy destination to get to and there are several routes you can take to reach this gorgeous Sunshine Coast beach, depending on your starting point.
If you are coming north from Brisbane or south from Gympie and beyond you will need to take the Bruce Highway (aka M1). However, for more specific instructions, the best thing to do is check out an online map tool like Waze who will provide you with clear and reliable directions.
Limited parking is available at Park Alexandria on Burgess Street and in the surrounding residential streets within a five minute walk.
If you would prefer to take a bus there are several options available for you from all over the Sunshine Coast. They include the 600, 602, 603, 604, 607, 608 and 609 services which run variously from Maroochdyore, Nrimbam, Golden Beach, USC station and Courbould Park Racecourse. They
The nearest bus stops to Kings Beach include the Caloundra State School, Moreton Parade at Saltair Street and Ormuz Avenue at Bingera Terrace, which are all about a 8 to 12 minute walk to the beach.

Things to do at Kings Beach
You will not want for things to do at Kings Beach Caloundra. In fact, if anything, you’ll struggle to fit everything into the limited time you will have available. So, it will pay to be organised.
The beach of course is the main drawcard here, and you will be able to swim in the sea, surf, sunbathe and enjoy activities like kayaking and wakeboarding until your heart is content. If the waves of the Coral Sea or the risk of rips and drags are too much for you, then you can always spend some time in the 25 metre oceanfront swimming pool that looks out directly to the water.
Away from the sand, a lovely coastal walking path links Kings Beach Caloundra to nearby Bulcock Beach. You can also venture in the opposite direction up the headland and around to Shelley Beach if you fancy a change of scene.
The parks and water fountain that resides just off the sand are sure to entertain children for hours, while one of the biggest attractions of visiting Kings Beach Caloundra is to complete the Murals Trail that highlights the history of this part of the Sunshine Coast through artwork that illuminates the laneways and streetscape.
Kings Beach Caloundra Accommodation
You don’t have to worry about where to stay in Kings Beach Caloundra as there are plenty of holiday accommodation options available. These range from bigger resorts to rental apartments and Airbnb accommodation, so they cover most budgets.
One of the best places to base yourself at is the ULTIQA Shearwater Resort, especially if you have young children or mobility issues. It is pretty much located right next to the beach, with many rooms having balconies that look out directly to the Coral Sea.
Units here are very comfortable and designed with a lovely coastal theme. They are equipped with ensuite bathrooms, a lounge area with a flat screen TV and comfortable double beds. The venue also has an outdoor heated swimming pool, which is great for an evening splash, as well as two restaurants and free parking undercover, which is very handy in Kings Beach Caloundra.
Another good option is the Rolling Surf Resort which also overlooks the Coral Sea directly. This fabulous resort provides self-contained apartments that come with kitchens that are fully equipped for those wanting to self cater, as well as a washing machine, dining area and dishwasher. If you stay here you will also get to enjoy free Wi-Fi, swim in its fantastic pool which runs for the entire length of the property and workout at its fitness centre.
For those wanting to be a little further back from the beach, the Ocean View Resort should do the trick. It is situated on the main street in Caloundra and offers very comfortable apartments and rooms with balconies. As well as a nice swimming pool, other drawcards here are a sauna, hot tub and a BBQ area on the rooftop which is a fantastic area to see the sunrise or sunset, depending on the time of day.

When it comes to where to eat at Kings Beach you are spoilt for choice. The area has a number of excellent venues to enjoy a meal in between beach sessions.
One of the best places to dine is at the Kings Beach Bar which offers a truly wonderful beachfront location directly overlooking the Coral Sea. If you happen to go there for breakfast or brunch, you simply have to try their oreo cheesecake waffle, which is a really decadent way to set you up for the day. Alternatively, their chicken katsu share plate and range of craft beef burgers are sensational. The venue also has plenty of vegan choices, live music and outdoor seating which enables you to take in the coastal views.
Another excellent option is the Kings Beach Surf Club which is located within the Caloundra Surf Life Saving Club. As you would expect from a venue such as this it has a lovely family-friendly atmosphere and a food menu that covers most tastes. Their Sri Lankan Fish Curry is a personal favourite of mind.
Elsewhere, Dom’s at Kings on Edmund Street, the Yeti Restaurant & Bar in the ULTIQA Shearwater Resort on the same street and the popular Kings Beach Tavern all provide menus with varied meal and drink choices to suit most budgets and tastes.
