Introduction
Extending for eleven glorious kilometres, Bramston Beach is one of the best beaches in Queensland you’ve possibly never heard of. Located just a 25 minute drive up from Innisfail and about an hour short of Cairns, this charming coastal township has a population of 175 people, each of whom gets to live near their own piece of paradise.
What makes this Tropical North Queensland coastal area so special is that it is very quiet. In fact, at any given time of the working week, you may even have the beach entirely to yourself – or at least long stretches of it. So, if you are looking for a place where you can enjoy a digital detox, soak up the sun or go for a long stroll, this is a great option.
If you are lucky you might even see a pod of Australian Humpback Dolphins frolicking in the sea, as well as the odd cassowary waddling on the beach. (Bramston is one of the last places left in the Cairns Regional Council area where they sometimes frequent the sand).
For those wanting a day out in the sun, Bramston is a terrific spot for fishing straight off the sand. It also has picnic and barbecue areas that enable you to catch what you cook and a fantastic caravan and campsite where you can stay overnight.
You might want to visit Bramston Beach between May and October which constitutes the dry season. At this time, the skies tend to be clearer and the humidity is reduced, although you do get very pleasant sunshine.

Generally speaking, like most Queensland beaches near Cairns, you’ll find more people here at the weekends than during the week. You wont find the hoards of locals and tourists that congregate on the Cairns Esplanade. However, if you want to enjoy this stretch of paradise on your own, then your best bet is to come on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

When you arrive at Bramston Beach you will find a good range of facilities. They include toilets, sheltered picnic tables, a grassed area and BBQs. Children will be able to enjoy a swing set, while a boat ramp at Joyce Creek can help launch you on to the water, from which you can venture out to nearby islands.
There is a camping and caravan park directly off the beach which provides a convenient option to pitch your tent or park your trailer. Directly in front of this campground, a stinger net is in place between November and May. At this time, surf lifesavers might be in operation.
If you need to rent a vehicle, you will find most of the major car rental companies operating from the Cairns Airport including Avis, Budget and Europcar.
How to get to Bramston Beach
You will need a car to get to Bramston Beach, but if you have access to one then you should have no trouble navigating your way there. Things to do at Bramston Beach
The main thing to do at Bramston Beach is relax. The beach is perfectly set up for you to erect your cabana and spend a lazy day soaking up the tropical vibes of this stunning coastal region.
As previously mentioned, the beach stretches for 11km, so it is an excellent place to go on a long walk or extended beachcombing session. If you fancy a swim, there is a stinger net located out of the front of the caravan and camping park which is often patrolled by surf lifesavers. However, due to the presence of stingers you should only swim in this net and nowhere else on the beach.
For those who want to take to the water there is a boat ramp at Joyce Creek that you can launch kayaks, canoes or other vessels from. You can also take your boat out from here to go fishing in the deeper waters of the Coral Sea. If you don’t have a boat of your own, charters are available from local operators that will take you to the best spots to cast a line.
Away from the beach, you should take the opportunity to explore the nearby Wooroonooran National Park, which is a world heritage-listed park that accommodates lush rainforests, stunning waterfalls, and several species of wildlife. You might also want to check out the Russell River National Park Graham range section and the Ella Bay National Park.

In terms of accommodation options, Bramston Beach doesn’t have that many to speak of. That said, the Bramston Beach resort is a good option. It is located right by the golden sands of the beach and features suites that have queen and single beds as well as air conditioning and other amenities like a TV and small kitchenette area with a mini-fridge and microwave oven.

Places to eat near Bramston Beach
Bramston Beach Restaurants
There aren’t that many dining options in and around Bramston Beach, so you might want to self-cater during your visit here. However, for those who are self-catering, there are barbecue facilities that you can use to cook up any fish you catch or burgers or snags.
If you do want to buy something ready made to eat, your best bet is the cafe at the Bramston Beach Resort which, as its name suggests, is located right by the beach. They offer a delicious menu of dishes including their prawns caldine curry (my favourite!) and sticky baked chicken fillet. The serving size is very generous, so you won’t leave there hungry!
For other dining options, head to the nearby town of Garradunga, which is situated about a 15-minute drive away. There you will be able to enjoy a nice meal of hearty favourites like burgers and fish and chips at the Garradunga Hotel, which is a lovely country pub with a camping area.
Alternatively, make your way over to Babinda, which is a 20-minute drive away. You will find a sprinkle of cafes and eateries there including the Babinda Tavern and the Kool Spot Cafe.
