Your Guide To Visiting Wongaling Beach (UPDATED 2025)

Wongaling Beach Review

If you find yourself on the Cassowary Coast make sure you head to Wongaling Beach.

This stunning residential beach is part of a continuous stretch of sandy coastline that extends for about 11 km and incorporates Mission Beach to the north and South Mission Beach to the south.

The beach is easy to get to and you can access it directly from the road, across from which is a long strip of residential houses and holiday rental properties.

What Things to do at Wongaling Beach are there?

Wongaling Beach is not patrolled by surf lifesavers and you are not recommended to in this part of the Coral Sea due to the presence of marine stingers and crocodiles.

That said, the long expanse of sand is perfect for walking on and dog mum’s and dads will be happy to read that there is both an off and on-leash area for your four legged friend to stretch their legs, too.

Whilst on the beach you’ll get lovely views of Dunk Island, which lies off its southern Coast, and the soft golden sand is perfect for sunbathing.

What Facilities are there at Wongaling Beach?

There are some decent facilities at Wongaling Beach, but as the sand can be accessed via several spots it can be easy to miss them.

Both the Allan Wheatley Memorial Park on Reid Road and Rotary Park have picnic tables, toilets, cold showers, BBQs and sinks with running water. However you can’t camp at either places.

Rather usefully though, you should be able to find two PowerPoints under the sheltered area at the Allan Wheatley Park near the BBQ though, which is great if you want to charge up your phone or laptop,

You will find more parking at Koda Street Coastal Reserve and lots more amenities at Mission Beach.

What is the Best Time to Visit Wongaling Beach?

As Wongaling Beach and the rest of the Cassowary Coast has a tropical climate, it is somewhere you can visit all year round.

You might find it a bit hot in the summer months, and there is little shade when on the beach, so it is advisable to slap on plenty of sunscreen and wear a hat, glasses, and not stay out for too long.

It’s probably not a good idea to visit Wongaling Beach before sunrise and after sunset, because that is when crocodiles might be most active.
