Nudgee Beach: Brisbane Visitor Information (UPDATED 2025)

Family-friendly coastal area just 25-minute drive from the Brisbane CBD

At just a 25-minute drive away, Nudgee Beach is the nearest beach you can go to from the Brisbane CBD. It is also just a 10-minute drive from the city’s main airport.

If you are expecting a beachfront of glistening golden sands and big rolling waves, you might be a bit disappointed. The beach is essentially a part of the Boondall Wetlands Complex, so a lot different from what you would get at the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast.

In fact, the main drawcard of Nudgee Beach is its wild, natural feel, which is flanked by muddy mangroves and home to various species of birdlife. That said, swimming is possible if it hasn’t been raining heavily and the water is clear, under which conditions it is a very pleasant spot to let your kids splash safely around.

The beach is well known for being a decent place for fishing, with whiting, flathead and bream being easy to catch around the reef near the shore. Additionally, it has a bike track that runs near the Schulz Canal all the way to the Toombul Shopping Centre and beyond.

Nudgee Beach also has a nice expanse of sand and an enclosed dog park at nearby Tuckeroo Park, where your four-legged friend can run around freely.

Moreover, if you fancy making a day of it at Nudgee Beach, you should have no problems finding a parking space, and there are picnic areas, complete with barbecues, which you can use for al fresco meals.

How to get to Nudgee Beach

As mentioned, Nudgee Beach is one of the nearest beaches near Brisbane you can visit, so it is easy to reach via several forms of transportation.

If you are driving there, you will find a number of car parks available, including ones at the Nudgee Beach Reserve and Tuckeroo Park. There is also ample street parking in the surrounding residential area.

For those without access to a car, the 306 bus stops off at Oquinn Street. You can check out the Translink timetable here.
