Pristine 2km stretch of white sand on (Wop-pa) Island popular with nudists
Prepare to fall in love the second you lay eyes on the pristine white sands and teal waters of Long Beach on Great Keppel Island.
Stretching for about 2 km, this stunning expanse of white sand is easily the most idyllic spot and best beach on Wop-pa, providing superb views of Keppel Bay and Humpy Island that you will want to spend a lot of time enjoying.
Getting to this beach involves a bit of a trek from the bosky area which is located at Fisherman Beach’s southern end.
Overall, it will take you about 30 minutes to traverse the rocky, undulating trail, but once you arrive you’ll be treated to one of the best coastal experiences on the entire island.
About Long Beach
Long Beach has been voted one of the top 20 beaches in Australia and it’s not difficult to see why because it boasts a breathtaking setting.
Despite this, you might not see many people on the sand. Partly, this will be because there are 17 beaches overall on Great Keppel that you can visit, and also because this one is located on the other side of it, from where the main accommodations are based.
For those who do make it here, you may well notice that some will have nothing but their birthday suits on. That is because this beach incorporates an unofficial nudist area at its northern end.
However, most of them tend to be hidden from plain view as they seek shade under one of the main trees that flank the sand.
Things To Do at Long Beach
One of the best things to do at Long Beach on Great Keppel Island, apart from nude sunbathing is to simply relax.
The beach is perfect for laying down on a towel and simply soaking in some Vitamin D. But if you fancy going for a stroll, the brilliant white sand is soft on your feet, and the water is relatively safe for paddling.
That said, you shouldn’t venture too far out because it is not patrolled by surf lifesavers and there may be the odd stinger present.
It is worth noting that there are no facilities at the beach, so you will need to pack everything in and take it back out with you and leave no trace.
If you happen to get here early enough, it is a wonderful spot to see the sunrise over Keppel Bay.
