Rules Beach: The Best Queensland Beach You’ve (Probably) Never Heard Of!

Stunning Discovery Coast Beach in the Gladstone Region with Serious Off-The-Grid Vibes

Boasting Agnes Water and 1770 among its ranks, it is no surprise that The Discovery Coast is high on many people’s Queensland bucketlist. But in their desire to get to them, many bypass Rules Beach, which is equally as spectacular, if not more so.

Located about a thirty minute drive south of both and 100 km north of Bundaberg, this pristine beach extends for 14 km between Deepwater Creek and Baffle Creek.

Its main appeal is that it gives off real off-the-grid vibes which are perfect for long walks, fishing, 4WD and water like kayaking or paddleboarding.

Most times you go to Rules Beach, you’ll find only a handful of locals on the sand. But if you are prepared to walk upwards of one kilometre up the beach, past the rocks, you will pretty much have it completely to yourself.

How To Get To Rules Beach

Rules Beach is one of several beaches on the Discovery Coast that is easy to get to by car. For most people, accessing it will require driving along the Bruce Highway and/or State Route 3, depending on where you are coming from.

Eventually, you will want to make your way to Rules Beach Road. So, if you punch that into Google Maps or Waze, it should be able to direct you there by the quickest route.

There is no car park at the beach access point, so you will just need to leave your car by the side of this road when you arrive at it.

Things To Do

Arguably the best thing to do at Rules Beach is absolutely nothing. It is one of the best Gladstone Beaches for laying down a towel or putting up a cabana and relaxing with a good book or your Spotify playlist.

However, if you do fancy being active, you can walk for as long as your heart desires in both directions and there is plenty of opportunity for beachcombing and exploring the rocks that are a little way up from the main beach access.

If you bring your fishing gear, you will also enjoy the chance to catch bream, flathead, and whiting right from the shore, while those with their own kayaks or paddleboards can venture out into the Coral Sea.

Swimming is not recommended because there is no lifeguard service here and the water can be a little choppy and full of rips. But if you have a 4WD or suitable motorbike, you can drive up and down the full length of the coastline at your leisure.

Where To Stay at Rules Beach

Apart from maybe the odd rental property, there is only one accommodation option at Rules Beach, but it is a good one – the BIG4 Rules Beach Holiday Park.

The pet-friendly facility offers state-of-the-art areas for campsites and caravans, as well as luxury glamping that comes with superb views of the Coral Sea.

It also has deluxe laundry and accessible bathroom facilities, an excellent camp kitchen and BBQ facilities.
